Our master bedroom needed a serious update. Nothing says "help me" like blue walls and dark windows, right?
A little backstory - we bought our 1960s house from my in-laws, so this is actually the house my husband grew up in. It has 2 additions that were added on to the original house, which makes this house an overall 5 bedrooms!! The "new" master bedroom, as I'll call it, is on the first floor off of the kitchen. We decided to use the original master bedroom that is upstairs.
As you can see in the pre-remodel picture below, it had these blue colored walls and the ceiling was never painted. The window trim and window sills needed some updating, so we went to work (or I should say, my husband went to work), pulling the old trim and sills off the windows and adding a new and updated style, which instantly made the room look so much better!
We decided on an accent wall for this room. We're both into the muted and dark greens recently, so a dark green behind our headboard was perfect. It also went with a photo I saw on Pinterest that just made my vision for our room become a reality. We headed to Home Depot and picked out 2 colors we loved and got the paint. The accent wall color was Black Spruce by PPG Paints in Glidden Essentials. The other three walls in the room started out as Spring Rain by PPG Paints in Glidden Essentials. We thought we would use the lightest color on the paint strip as our complimentary color, but quickly found out that we were wrong. The Spring Rain light green ended up looking blue on our walls, so one weekend we repainted those three walls to be Milk Paint by PPG Paints in Glidden Essentials and the room looks so much better! Note to self: if going with a dark green accent wall, a cream color on the other three are highly recommended :)
Our bedframe and night stands are from Amazon, and the lamps are from At Home, which is quickly becoming my most favorite store after Hobby Lobby of course. We love the look of industrial farmhouse and are slowly implementing it throughout our home as we renovate spaces. If you're in the market for a bedframe (link) and night stands (link), you can purchase through my links.
We wanted a rug to cover most of the room, so we took the rug we had in our old living room and implemented it here. The design on the rug and the design in the bedspread clash a little bit, and the rug isn't as plushy as we wanted it to be, so we're currently in the market for a new rug for this space, but it's working for now and still makes the room feel cozy.
Our dressers are family heirlooms. They belonged to my grandparents and we recently acquired them when my grandfather moved. Let me tell you, they don't make furniture like this anymore. It's solid wood and super heavy. We originally had the dressers arranged differently in the room, and when I suggested to my husband to move them around, he kind of gave me a little bit of the "are you serious right now?" look, but he lovingly moved them around for me anyway :)
I love the floor-to-ceiling closet doors! I originally wanted to reface them and give them a coat of paint, but after seeing the room, we decided the natural and original look of them was perfect!
The shelf above the bed was inspired by the Pinterest post I found and I couldn't wait to decorate it once my husband had the shelf installed. The lanterns were found at Target and the two little planters and faux florals were bought at a local home décor store in my area. The signs are simply typed and printed and placed in a matted 8.5x11 photo frame.
I think this is the room I love the most. I saw this vision and it's slowly starting to come together! I'll need to get more décor on the walls and, of course, I may never be done decorating and changing things around a bit, but that's the fun part of it all!
Happy decorating!
Amanda
